Everglades National Park, Part I
“There are no other Everglades in the world. They are, they have always been, one of the unique regions of the earth; remote, never wholly known. Nothing anywhere else is like them.” – Marjory Stoneman Douglas
I wasn’t looking forward to the Everglades as my imagination was flooded with visions of alligators, pythons, and zillions of insects in addition to heat and humidity despite it being December.
I did end up seeing LOTS of alligators but they weren’t encroaching on my “personal” space. The pythons were not to be seen although I had a close call with a HUGE hose.
BUT the insects did not disappoint and the weather, although technically winter, made a point of letting us know we were in Florida. 😀
I strongly recommend watching The Swamp for an excellent lesson in why we need to preserve this territory.
